The Student Health Center has two branches, one is Medical/Nursing and the other is Mental Health.

The Student Health Center supports student success by attending to their physical and emotional well-being.

Services are limited to currently enrolled San Diego Community College District students. We offer Basic Primary Care services. Serious or complicated medical conditions may be referred to providers outside of SHC for further evaluation and treatment.

No Show Policy: If you schedule an appointment, you must show-up or give a 24-hour cancellation notice to avoid a $5.00 late fee. 


Accidents and Insurance

The Student Accident Insurance Plan provides coverage for on-campus accidents. All claims are made through the Student Health Center, Room A-180. Please file a claim with our office as soon as possible after the accident. All enrolled students are eligible. This insurance is secondary insurance. Medi-cal or private insurance should be billed first.



For a campus medical emergency:

  • Call 9-1-1 or ext. 6405 from a campus phone.
  • From a cell phone call SDCCD College Police Dispatch at 619-388-6405.
  • District Police are the first responders for campus emergencies. They are CPR certified with defibrillator (AED) access and direct paramedics to the victim.
  • All on-campus accidents or injuries should be reported to the Student Health Center as soon as possible.

Birth Control & Emergency Contraception

Student Health Center offers free counseling, written information, and referrals for all types of birth control methods. Providers at SHC can write prescriptions for birth control pills.

Emergency Contraception ("Plan B") is available at the Student Health Center for a small fee, and at any pharmacy without a prescription. It is taken to prevent pregnancy after having unprotected sex (or in the event of a slipped or broken condom). Plan B Is most effective when taken as soon as possible within 3 days, but can be taken up to 5 days after unprotected sex.

Pregnancy Testing & Pregnancy

The Student Health Center offers pregnancy testing and referrals for pre-natal care (health care during pregnancy) or other services.

Urine pregnancy tests are $2.00 and accurate as early as 2-3 days before your next expected period.  Ideally, first morning urine is preferred for testing.

Women's Health-Pap Testing

Q: What is a Pap test?

A: A test for cervical cancer


Q: What causes cervical cancer?

A: Human papilloma virus (HPV)

  • Sexually transmitted
  • Causes genital warts
  • Preventable with vaccination and wearing condoms during sex


A Pap test is recommended for all women between the ages of 21 and 65 years old, annually. You should discuss specific recommendations with your provider but for most women Pap test screening is recommended every 3 years. 


The Student Health Center offers Pap tests to students for $65.00. This fee also includes chlamydia and gonorrhea testing at no additional charge.
